Champs Info!
June 18th
Champs Meet Format:
There is only one 8-lane pool for competition, therefore the meet will run more like a traditional neighborhood meet with alternating girls’ and boys’ events. This is different from the separate girls and boys pools from previous Champs. The meet will be divided into 2 sessions:
- 10 and under - start at 8:30 am - estimated end time of 12:45pm
- 11 and up - start time of 2:30 - estimated end time of 6:53
The Facility
- One 8-lane 25 yard competition pool with an adjoining 12-lane 25 yard pool used for warm-ups only
- The pool is completely covered and “naturally ventilated” (not air conditioned) with garage type doors running along both sides of the pool.
- There are both public restrooms and separate athlete only locker rooms
- Due to the limited space and expected attendance, there will be no bleachers or chairs allowed on the pool deck for spectators. The spectator area will be standing room only as to allow everyone the opportunity to watch their swimmer(s) perform. There is an area just outside of the spectator viewing area where families can set up canopies and bring chairs for the time between their swimmers’ events. I understand that this is not ideal but it is the best situation we could get for this year's Champs.
- Except for the spectator viewing area, access to the deck will be restricted to athletes and volunteers. The best way to see your swimmer in their events at Champs is to volunteer for the meet but with 8 teams competing, volunteer slots per team will be limited. You will need some experience in order to volunteer, meaning that it can’t be your first time to work as an age group parent or on the ready bench, etc. -- the Champs meet is not a place for on the job training.
- Volunteers will be assigned by the Volunteer Coordinator.
- There are no concessions at the pool but the league is working to find several food truck vendors to set up in the parking lot to serve as concessions for the meet. Families are welcome to bring their own refreshments but no glass bottles, no alcohol, please keep food of of the pool deck.
There will be more information about the logistics of the meet coming out the week of the meet including where to drop off swimmers, parking lots, etc.
That's all for now, looking forward to a great meet at Champs!
